Gasoline Prices Continue to Climb

PHNOM PENH: The retail prices of gasoline and diesel have increased by 150 Riels per liter in the last ten days. Although prices have gone up, Cambodians still pay below the global average for gas.

From September 21-30, the price of gas per liter stands at 4,750 Riels (about $1.16), while diesel costs 4,850 Riels (about $1.18). Cambodian gas prices remain below the global average which has been about $1.79 since June, according to the Global Petrol Prices website.

The Cambodian government currently subsidizes 287 Riels (about 6.5 cents) per liter to manage consumer prices. Cambodia primarily imports all of its petroleum from countries like Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. This year, imports are down 9.5% despite growing consumer demand.
